The State Fair

On Monday we went to the state fair with our friends the Hickman's. We had such a great time and it was the first time for both Zoe Scout and me. She is so excited to go again next year! Luckily the Hickman's go every year so they were able to give us advice on how to do things such as..... we rode the Dart train to the fair which was really fun and it only cost us $4 (parking at the fair can cost $20-$30).

ZS and Colin rode the bumper cars (definitely a daddy activity) and while I think she had fun she looked unsure the whole time!

Here are ZS, Sully, and Helen in front of Big Tex. Also, she got that Angry Bird for free......so is so cute people just give her stuff all the time, no joke.

There was a little green house that had a train running through it. The smell made me wish I had time to devote to my yard.

Jude and me.

Cort and me.

There was this super cool guy on stilts dressed up as a tree. Scout was frightened at first (understandably) but soon warmed up and tried to pick the leaves off of him.

Colin and Zoe Scout pretending to be flowers.

Here are Colin and Scout in front of the ferris wheel. They rode it together with Julie, Sully, and Helen and their bags of cotton candy. I am sure they left their car sticky!

Here is Zoe Scout in one of the educational pavilions. This asparagus was trying to inspire kids to eat healthy. I am not sure asparagus is the right veggie to pick. Maybe something a little more kid friendly, like a carrot or potato.

Here are just some randoms since I haven't posted pics of the kids in a while.

Zoe Scout got a Target gift card from her Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Tommy for her birthday and she used it to buy this Strawberry Shortcake doll which she was happy to show off!

Now that the boys are big enough to sit up in the tub they have turned their baby tub into a toy. You have to keep watch though....sometimes one will try to crawl out and accidentally flip the other boy over.

A couple of weeks ago FWFD engine 37 made a morning stop at Chick-Fil-A and we got to take pictures on and in the truck and with the CFA cow dressed as a firefighter.

Last weekend ZS and I went to Broken Bow Oklahoma for a Bate Family Girls weekend. She had a blast and I gained some confidence in being able to take my children on a road trip by myself! One of the things we did was go on a trail ride. ZS and I rode together.

One of the daily activities at our house is for the twins to empty the tupperware cabinet. I have to say, I am growing very weary of putting it all back multiple times a day. I let them play in there because otherwise I would have two babies who would constantly want to be held while I am cooking.

Recently they have discovered that they can 1) climb inside the cabinet and 2) close each other in.

Sometimes when we get too much lotion in the boys hair after bath time we like to make mohawks...... Jude's is pretty impressive but Cort's is still a little short.

Scout playing as a super hero with her towel cape.

Colin and I turned over the kitchen table the other day to fix a wobbly leg and discovered that Scout had officially marked her territory by writing her name under the table.

Weigh-In Wednesday

It has been a while since I posted last on my blog. This would be due to the fact that we have had someone sick in our house for 8 weeks. Just let that sink in.......8 weeks. Yup, I am about to go crazy.

I have thought very little about trying to loose weight which of course means I have not lost any. I think I am due for a weight loss reboot. I am hoping that we are down to the last of the "sickies" so I can concentrate on something other then wiping noses, managing vomit, and forcing liquids.

Weigh-In Wednesday on Thursday

Yikes, I haven't done a very good job keeping up with Weigh-In Wednesdays on Wednesday. Note to self: must do better!

I learned something this week. Scrap-booking weekends are NOT good for the waist line.

I was out of town this last weekend at a scrap-booking retreat which was total fun. Fun not only for the actual scrap-booking but the food was good and abundant. I ate more, and more often then I do when I am at home. I also burned far less calories because there was no running around after little ones, only sitting, working, and wishing I could just kiss their cheeks!

This of course resulted in no weight loss but I did only put that half pound back on so I am counting it a victory!

I am headed to another scrap-booking weekend tomorrow and I will do much better this time. I am hoping for another full pound off next Wednesday.

One last thing.....I would like to publicly thank my sweet husband for allowing me to be gone 2 weekends in a row. He is very sweet to take care of the kids and give me some refueling time with my friends and my crafts! I love you, Colin!

Do crafting supplies make anybody else salivate? I just wiped away some drool.

Weigh-In Wednesday

So, admittedly, broccoli is not one of those foods that people just crave and get really excited to eat. As a culture we usually hide it in dishes that feature a more appetizing ingredient: Broccoli Cheese Soup, Chinese Beef and Broccoli, Broccoli cupcakes (not kidding), and some people even fry broccoli to make chips!

I have been finding myself eating the "mini trees" whenever I can lately. It is so good and even Zoe Scout has started to participate in my mid-afternoon veggie-athon. She still avoids eating the stalks but will chow down on the tops.

I lost 1/2 a pound this week which I am happy about. I have made some serious food-life changes in the past couple of weeks so I am hoping this will help me to stay on track a little better and avoid that Dr. Pepper trap that I mentioned last week!

51.5 lbs to go.

I actually think they look kinda yummy!

Weigh-In Wednesday on Sunday

Yogurt is so delicious. It has become my new breakfast of choice along with some berries. It also makes a great snack when I am craving something kind of sweet (which seems to be more and more often). It is one of the ways I am trying to cut down on high calories treats.

In addition to making sweet substitutions I am trying my best to make salty substitutions also. Instead of chips I try to munch on veggies dipped in balsamic vinaigrette and my new obsession is barley salad. So addicting and I don't feel bad having seconds!

In the last 2 weeks I have dropped one pound. I feel like I really fought hard for this pound. My Dr. Pepper addiction has gotten the best of me lately and I had started to drive into Sonic almost every day again. I was starting to use the bubbly goodness as a stress reliever which is a path that ends in a Route 44 almost every day. Imagine trying to keep the boys from burrowing into the ash filled fireplace while doing your best to console a 4 year old sobbing over the death of a spider in Charlotte's Web, all when your husband is gone for 24 hours. Why yes, I think I will have a vanilla Dr. Pepper IV! Thank you very much!

Weigh-In Wednesday

I took that pound back off this week. I was much more motivated in the food department because of my slip up last week.

I am finding it soooo much easier to choose fruit or veggies as a snack rather then crackers, chips, or cheese. I am also finding that I feel not so great if I choose unhealthy food. I am hoping that this means my body (and mind) have turned a corner and the weight will go back to coming off 1 pound a week.

Colin found a picture the other day of us when we were 21 and I realized that my face was so much cuter without all the extra "fluff" on it. I just had to tell myself that I am slowly working my way back!

2011 Rewind - Part 1: Colin's Birthday

One of the things I have learned about having two babies at once is that some things fall through the cracks. In my world that means a lot of things. There were several posts (8, in fact) that I had intended to put on my blog and time has just gotten away from me. So, in an effort to catch up I am going to go back in time an update you on some important things that have happened this year!

Colin's Birthday
On March 18th Colin turned 28! I was able to pull off a surprise dinner date and it was fun to be together without the kids. There are so many things I love about my sweet husband and I have tried to compile a list:

1. He is always glad to see me and the kids.
2. He will gratefully eat anything I put in front of him.
3. He has a tender heart and wants to be my emotional support.
4. He has a super cute smile and his eyes light up when he laughs really hard!
5. He has worked VERY hard to have a career as a firefighter and takes pride in being a wonderful provider for his family.
6. He finds the dumb things I say amusing.
7. He is a talented musician and song writer and the kids love to hear him play and sing.
8. He strives every day to be a better father and husband then he was the day before.
9. Nobody grills chicken better then he does. He also makes great salsa!
10. He is my favorite companion. There is no one else I would rather spend time with and often when we are apart I find myself wishing he was with me so we could laugh together at something funny.

Colin, I love you with all my heart and am so proud to be your wife. I am so thankful for the man that you are!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Well, the scale said I put one of those hard fought pounds back on this week. I guess it was bound to happen eventually.

I only exercised one day and was not so great about portion control and it definitely showed in little black numbers.

Luckily my sweet husband bought me new running shoes for our anniversary last week so I have no more excuses. I am committing to running every day in the coming week that Colin is not at the fire house. Maybe that will take this pound back off by next Wednesday.

54 lbs to go.

Stuff

The boys had eggs for the first time two mornings ago. They loved them! Jude now has 4 teeth and Cort has two with two more probably arriving in about 2 days. They are starting to discover more foods and I can't wait to say "so long" to baby food!

Why do boys like electronics soooo much? C&J can't get enough chew time on remotes!

Of course once Jude discovered I was taking pictures it was on to investigating this new electronic device!
